Manufactured homes are built across defined sizes. Single wides are usually between 14 and 18 feet, delivered in a single piece. Double wides are delivered in two parts and are joined at the site, producing space comparable with conventional housing.
Purchasing factory direct manufactured housing from the manufacturer cuts out the middleman and this can add significant cost to the price. The trade-off is managing the process: the three stages need organising. Working with a company that handles all three avoids the main difficulty.
Setup follows a clear sequence. Each section gets placed and levelled, after which anchored according to local requirements. On multi-section homes the two parts are joined and the marriage line is weatherproofed. Service connections finish the job.
Site preparation governs how well delivery and installation runs. The foundation has to be correctly graded and compacted. Water, sewer and electrical connections need to be brought to the site prior to delivery. The approach route is equally important: the trailer needs room to manoeuvre.
