Family and Group Trips and How Cover Works Across Them

Who is covered by what stops being obvious once there are several of you. Arrangements get taken on trust. A single policy covering a household is the usual approach. What counts as a family is set by the policy rather than by you. Some cover only children living at the same address. The cut-off is often earlier than parents expect. Studying can push the limit higher. This gets discovered at the worst moment. Age caps apply to adults too. Older travellers are often excluded from standard family policies. Group trips among friends are the messier case. Some will have annual cover, some will have bought for the trip, some will have nothing. The costs and traveltweaks guide the decisions land on the people around them. A brief conversation prevents a serious one later. Being on the same trip does not mean being on the same policy. Others cover members travelling independently. Split itineraries deserve checking. Companion cover exists on some policies and not others. This matters more than it sounds. Anyone who has dealt with an incident abroad in company treated the group arrangement as one thing rather than several.
